Nifty closes below 50D SMA, falls 4th straight session

  • Nifty closes below 50-day SMA of 23,850.

  • Nifty/Sensex fell for a 4th straight session as Brent crude from ~$85 to ~$100+/bbl through the week on escalating US-Iran conflict and Houthi attacks on Saudi tankers.

  • US 10-year yield climbed to ~4.71%, adding to FII outflow pressure.

  • Japan 10-Year yield crossed 2.8% - a 31-year high.

  • Section 232 pharma tariff (100% on patented drugs) takes effect 31 Jul for large US-listed pharma cos — Indian generics remain exempt, with 2 year window to allow re-shoring.

  • As the temporary Section 122 tariffs expire on July 24, US puts in a more permanent Section 301 tariffs at 10% on India and 16 other countries and at 12.5% on China, Vietnam, Thailand and 40+ countries.

  • Rupee under pressure near record lows on rising import costs.

  • Strong results from IT majors (TCS, Tech Mahindra) and PSU & Midsize Banks (Bank Nifty gainers: AU Bank, BoB, Union Bank); Auto and FMCG held up as relative outperformers.
